The Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine's Database is a web-based PHP application which aims to overcome the difficulties encountered with the use of the traditional paper-based filing system within the nursery section of its affiliated centers and hospitals in creating different types of record for their patient. The system has four types of users: the system administrator, the hospital heads, the general encoders and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) encoder. Each type of user has its own set of accessible pages and functionalities
During the chairmanship of Dr. Emilio A. Hernandez Jr., of the then Committee on Fetus and the Newborn of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) in 1994-1996, a proposal on the organization of a separate society of neonatologists was presented to the PPS. Dr. Gloria Baens-Ramirez, his successor spearheaded the formation of the Committee on Constitution with Dr. Aurea Dagdag-Matias at the helm. The next chair, Dr. Socorro deLeon-Mendoza, painstakingly continued the crusade of her predecessors with the accomplishment of the Constitution. PPS allowed the transformation of the Committee into the Section of Neonatology within PPS. Her successor, Dr. Dolores Belmonte-Sy, finally obtained the approval and the blessings of the PPS under the initiative of the then president, Dr. Joel Elises. The PPS Board of Trustees, with Dr. Estrella Paje-Villar as President, finally approved the proposal for the Section to become a Society.
